How does the process work?

A Brew-on-Premises operation (or BOP) is a place where you can come and brew your own beer or wine in a retail environment. We provide the recipes, ingredients, equipment and the knowledge to make your brewing experience satisfying and rewarding. The process is simple.
There are 9 basic steps to brew beer. Even less to make wine.
We've listed the steps below.
Soon we hope to add pictures, for a virtual process tour.

How does the process work?
  1. All you need to know is the type of beer or wine you want to make. We'll help you select a recipe that matches. We have many proven recipes, and there's one to fit your tastes.

  2. We'll show you how to measure and weigh the proper ingredients for your recipe.

  3. If you're brewing beer, you'll be assigned a brewing kettle in which to boil the wort. Wort is the grain and extract mixture that is the basic ingredient of beer.

  4. At the proper time during the boil, you'll add hops to the wort. Hops affect the bitterness of the beer, and act as a natural preservative.

  5. Once the boil is completed, you will cool your wort through the heat exchanger into the fermentation vessel.

  6. At this point you will add the yeast. Yeast eats the malt sugar and produces alcohol and carbon dioxide. At this point, you'll need to design your personal label.

  7. The fermentation process takes about two weeks. During this time, your beer will be stored in our temperature controlled rooms.

  8. When you return, your beer will be ready for filtering and carbonation. Then you'll label, fill and cap your bottles.

  9. You're ready to enjoy your Beer!
If you're making wine, the process is a little different.

  • You'll pick a recipe from our selection of proven red, white or blush wines, and then we'll begin.

  • Wine making is a little easier. You'll start with a wine concentrate, which you'll place in a 5 gallon glass carboy. Then you'll add water and yeast, give it a good mix, and place the airlock on the carboy.

  • At this point you'll be able to design your labels from our vast selection of graphics elements. We'll create the label for you, and will have them ready when you return to bottle your wine.

  • Wine takes as long as 4-8 weeks to ferment, dependent on the variety you've chosen. During this time your wine will be stored in our temperature controlled fermentation rooms.

  • When you return for bottling, we'll show you how to label, fill and cork your bottles.

  • The best part is next, and that's when you get to enjoy your wine.
